JON MARKES
Welcome to my writing world.
I am a writer and shopkeeper, living in York, UK. I recently completed my first novel, Casting Long Shadows, which has been twenty years in the writing.

I will be adding more writing to this site very soon.
A serial I co-write with the author Michael Braccia has been published fortnightly by the Express and Star newspaper online since 2019.

The first year's episodes are now available in book form.

'GOODBYE'
I wrote 'Goodbye' after watching an episode of the BBC's Long Lost Family.
Patricia Jones, (whose acting credits include Grange Hill, Byker Grove, Emmerdale, Coronation Street and many theatrical performances), generously interpreted and performed the piece.
I am a member of Pen to Paper, a wonderfully inspiring writers' group in York, led by Lizzi Linklater.
We meet once a month to discuss each other's work and to learn writing techniques.
In 2022, Lendal Press published an anthology of our writings 'Something Brewing'.
A version of my story, 'The Waitress' appears in the anthology.
The anthology is available from Lendal Press,
Did You Think of Me?
This is an interpretation of my story 'Goodbye'. My friend and Leeford Village
co-writer, Michael Braccia was inspired to write a song based on the story and we recorded it in early 2020, with our friend Bruford Low.
